Biotechnology and related subjects are based on experimental scientific research. I use in-depth discussion of concrete examples of biological phenomena or experimental methodologies to explain general concepts. I teach students to critically read and analyze original research texts. I teach basic and advanced skills of scientific presentation and scientific writing.
I am a Ph.D. scientist with 30 years of research experience in biochemistry, molecular and cellular biology, and biotechnology. Recently I have been teaching a graduate-level Molecular Biotechnology course with 5-10 students in a group. Throughout my career I trained and mentored over a dozen of undergraduate interns and junior postdoctoral fellows in technical and scientific aspects of experimental work. One high school intern advanced to Siemens competition semi-finals with the project she completed under my immediate supervision. Other former trainees attend graduate schools at UC-Berkeley, Columbia University, and Princeton University.
